Prof. Asparuh Asparuhov, MD, PhD, DSc graduated from Medical University – Sofia in 1975. He gained a specialty in Orthopedics and Traumatology and then another one in Health Management. He completed two PhD dissertations at Medical Institute - Sofia on the following topics: "Anterior knee pain in young age" and "Arthroscopic reconstruction of anterior traumatic shoulder instability". He became an assistant professor and later a senior assistant professor at Medical University – Pleven, then an Associate Professor in 1993 and a Professor in Orthopedics and Traumatology in 2008.

Prof. Asparuhov is currently Dean of Faculty of Medicine in Medical University – Pleven.

Throughout the years Prof. Asparuhov gained many specializations worldwide (such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Turkey) along with attending a variety of different courses. He is an active teacher and lecturer at Medical University - Pleven.  Author and co-author of 297 scientific publications and publications in the country and abroad, including teaching materials and one monography.

He is an active member in different scientific organizations, several of which he is an honorary member, also representative for Bulgaria in different international organizations. He has many national and international awards for topics such as "Arthroscopy of the shoulder joint", National Congress of the Hungarian Orthopedic Society, Budapest, and National Prize of the Bulgarian Orthopedic and Traumatology Association (BOTA): 1985, 1986, 1991, 1992, 2003, 2005, 2007
